Midway Getaway!!

How was everyone's Valentine's Day? We didn't do much. We tried out a New Mexican restaurant Saturday evening that was two thumbs down. And Sunday we just hung out and made a great dinner for my mom for her birthday that was last week.
Monday we had a special surprise planned for the girls (and ourselves). I totally stole this idea from another blogger. The idea was too good NOT to do. We booked a hotel room in Heber City for the night and went up to get away and spend some time together and see the ice castles.

These cuties are so easy to please because they thought the big hotel beds were the only surprise and they loved it!
First up on the agenda was swimming!!!!
We had the whole place to ourselves which meant we were naughty and let the kids in the hot tub. The pool was pretty cold for Brynlie so she kept needing to be warmed up. We had tons of fun though!
Kennedy has turned into quite the little fish.

When did she get so big?! And so unwilling to be safe around the pool? She has zero fear!
After swimming we had quick showers and headed to the store to buy some essentials.
Then we hit up dinner at Tarahumara. I felt brave and tried some pretty spicy salsas from their salsa bar and paid for it with wicked breath, a tongue that burned all night, and severe heartburn all night. But it was yummy.

Next was the ice castles!! Kennedy was so excited to see them but was also very tired and cranky from swimming; you'll see evidence of this in the pictures. They were pretty cool! There were tunnels and slides, slot canyons and a maze... Elsa and Anna were there too, for extra $$ of course, but Kennedy got a glimpse.

Cruising on the slides.

See the grouchy?

After we saw all we wanted to see we headed back to the hotel and tried popping some popcorn in the oldest microwave known to man but only got about half the bag to pop. Then the girls were so exhausted they both crashed at 9 pm with lights and the tv on. I felt like they slept really well for the most part, but Brynlie did wake up at about 6 a.m. disoriented and scared so Cory brought her in bed with us until 8.

After a slow morning we ate the continental breakfast, which was actually pretty decent, and headed to the outlets. I found it ironic that we went up to Heber to see blue sky and sunshine and it was cold and foggy.
But Park City wasn't too bad, and the weather back at home has been so freaking awesome!

We went to the Columbia outlet and they had insanely awesome sales. We got Kennedy some hiking shoes for this summer,
Brynlie a fleece jacket and Kennedy a rain jacket all for $50! The shoes alone were that much without the sale. I was pumped!!

Once we got back down into the valley the weather was exceptionally warm and sunny. It was in the mid 50's today! After a short nap (I never sleep well anywhere but my own bed so I was tired) I was able to do my run outside in a tank top and shorts! It was so wonderful!!
And I am loving the forecast outlook

Also, random... But did anyone else see this article? I'm a total believer in Bigfoot, or should I say, Cain. I'm actually terrified of him. Like, irrationally. This is the second video I've seen of a sighting in the mountains above Utah Valley.
Whether it's real or not is obviously impossible to tell, and I don't care one way or another, but the idea of Cain wandering the earth freaks me out.

Anywho, back to happy things, we had a great time getting away. We usually don't do things like this in the winter but I'm vowing to make it more permanent because it's been wonderful. Hopefully spring is right around the corner so we can get to camping!!

Always Use Protection, and My Valentines

My leg has been pretty sore but it's not terrible. The worst is pants rubbing against it, so I always wear protection. Plus it's still bleeding on the gauze.
Thankfully it doesn't hurt to run. I tried it out on a few miles yesterday and was relieved that nothing hurt. So today I was able to get in my long run.

I've been choosing routes with hills so I can become a stronger runner. The route I ran today has several miles of uphill and I ran the entire 11 miles without stopping. I was extremely proud of myself. The end of the monster hill gets pretty steep, too, and I usually need to stop and take a break somewhere during it, but not today! I was in beast-mode! I was able to make up for my slower pace after I conquered the hill and was pleased with my average pace. Not bad for a long run! I felt incredible minus breathing in toxic air the entire time. My voice was hoarse when I got back. I hate Utah winters.

After my run I came home and showered and put on my new leggings my awesome friend, Lisa gave me.
Other than for pajamas I only can wear these around Valentine's Day, so I'm getting in the spirit of the season. They are super comfy though so I see pajamas in their future.

Then we had a girls date planned with lunch and a high school play. Lunch was fun, until Grandma left to go to the bathroom
And then we attempted the play. I had zero expectations with B since she won't hold still for anything. We almost made it through the whole thing but ended up leaving early. And all the running away from Mommy was pretty exhausting.
Looks like she will be up late tonight. Yay! (Not.)

I get kind of annoyed when people complain about not having "someone" for Valentine's Day. First of all, I agree this holiday is stupid. But it's a day to show anyone you love in your life some affection. It doesn't have to be a boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse type person. I think we all have someone or even someTHING in our lives that we love and are grateful for. In honor of the dumbest holiday ever, I'm going to share with you my valentines.

1. Obviously, my family. Cory, the girls, and our extended families as well. I'm kind of stuck with them forever, and I'm ok with that.

2. My friends. Oh man, I have some incredible friends. Sometimes I feel like a loner when I see someone has 500-600 Instagram followers or when they have to rent out a public facility for parties because they know so many people. But as the saying goes, it's not quantity that matters, it's quality. I know some wonderful people that I have laughed with, cried with, sweat with, trusted, and loved. They're my second family and I'm grateful for a support system like them. You know who you are.

3. Physical activity and all that goes with it. I love exercise. I love workout clothes. I'm obsessed with my running shoes (I have definitely found "the one")! I love having callouses on my hands and sore muscles. I love pumping my legs and feeling the burn in my lungs when I run. I love how happy it all makes me.

4. Mexican food. Tacos, burritos, enchiladas... I don't discriminate.

5. Makeup. I love feeling pretty and finding new products that amaze the crap out of me. It's rare that I actually get to get all dolled up, but I love it when I do.

6. Our house. It's not much to look at right now, but it already feels like home and I can't wait to move in.

7. Music. I love singing, playing the piano, jamming out to good music with a good beat or message.

8. Sunshine. You never know what you have until it's gone, right? I'm so dang ready for spring.

Happy love day, everyone!

Blogging Jinx

It's a little funny that yesterday I blogged about bruising on my legs...
Because today I jinxed myself and had an accident that I'm sure will develop the mother of all bruises.

If you're familiar with box jumps, we do those at our gym but on huge Cat tires of varying sizes. Lately, we've been taking those a step further for our cardio portion by doing what are called bar hops. You basically hurdle over bars of varying heights back and forth. Today I decided to attempt jumping over the highest bar. It was only slightly taller than the tallest Cat tire, which I can get on just fine. After making a spectacle trying to get the guts to do it, I jumped... And made it! I was so pumped I jumped again... And made it again! I started cheering for myself that I was doing it, which made the people who were initially waiting for me to try it turn and watch just as I made my 3rd  attempt... And didn't make it. My right foot caught on the bar and my right leg went back and the rest of me went over the bar. I have zero idea how I landed right side up without face planting and taking out my nose, since that's the biggest thing on my face. But I'm eternally grateful. I felt stupid that everyone watched me fail, but mostly my shin was in blinding pain! It started to swell immediately and I had to stop the workout and throw some ice on it. Not my proudest moment, but dang it, at least I tried!
I can walk on it mostly fine but it's pretty sore. I'm hoping it feels ok enough to run on Saturday. We shall see. And I'm waiting to see how gnarly it looks after a few days. I'll keep you updated.

We picked up Kennedy from preschool and had a quick snack, then headed back to the school to meet with her teachers and talk about the amazing progress she has made this year with speech. She is doing so well!! To celebrate, I decided to take the girls out to lunch afterward.

I tried to keep my lunch on the healthier side but I cannot resist sweet potato fries.
Lunch was actually a disaster thanks to the girls, so I shoveled it in and got my monsters out as fast as I could. I had planned on doing fun things today with them but my leg was hurting, I still needed to shower (I was scared to death of how bad the water would hurt) and they were driving me insane and not listening. Kennedy did tell me that Jesus ate at Habit Burger a long time ago, so... I tried to shoo them out reverently.

Home we went! I tried to clean the house but if you have kids, you know how pointless that can be. I hate days where I start out wanting to be all organized and get everything done and then I end up doing none of it. It makes me cranky. The kids have been having trouble falling asleep the last couple nights so they've been grouchy as well. I don't know what the deal is but they just keep playing and laughing and/or yelling at each other for at least an hour after we leave their room. I'm trying to put an end to it PRONTO!
Another thing making me bonkers is the air. Cory sent me this picture this morning at the top of the mine. Those aren't clouds, that's the inversion. So freaking gross! The sun can't even shine through it. January and February are on my list of things that must go.
But, life goes on. Things will get better. Plus it's almost the weekend, which I feel like since I'm working, I get to celebrate that a little bit now, even though my other job as a mom never stops. Happy Thursday everyone! It's almost Friday!!

Random Catch Up

This post is going to be long and all over the place. I've been trying to do better at blogging, so I've been taking more pictures but every night something has come up; a run I need to get in, basketball, paperwork for work, getting sucked into The Walking Dead, etc. So I'm just going to throw it all in since tonight I actually have the time. Let's take a trip back over the last couple weeks.

First up, if you haven't tried Fabletics, you need to! It's a monthly subscription for workout clothes, but you can skip any month for as long as you want. Each month they add new styles and February was too cute to pass up on. Don't you love it?! This outfit came for me on Saturday and I was like a kid on Christmas morning. I freaked my mom out. The prices start at $49 for an ENTIRE outfit! Prices vary, obviously, but I've loved everything I've bought, except their bras. They aren't super supportive, and I don't have much to support, so that's saying something. Those pants though... I die. And they aren't see-thru which is super important.

Brynlie tried to help me look prettier the other day in a not so subtle way. I guess my I'm-not-planning-on-leaving-the-house-look was offensive to her.
She's still super hard, but she has been super cute lately, too.

Sisters who pop popcorn together, stay together... At least until it's done popping, then they fight over the bowl.

I feel like marathon training has been going awesome this time around! And as I'm typing this I'm remembering that I described this in my last post. Oops! Either way, I've felt faster and stronger and my runs are going well (for me). Usually 6 miles takes me an hour, but I've been getting faster and faster at it, and on hilly routes!
I'm in to double digit long runs now which means the time commitment gets pretty intense from here on out. I'm super pumped though!

This is how Brynlie feels about church on super bowl Sunday.

The super bowl is kind of a huge deal at our house, food wise. None of us follow NFL, but we love the commercials, halftime show, and the excuse to pig out. Even Allison came for the fun and Kennedy finally got to hold her!! She was so dang excited! She's mentioned it in her prayers every night since.

Kennedy has been saying the funniest stuff lately. The other day I was about to get in the shower and Kennedy came in to use the bathroom. I was naked and walking away from her and she started giggling and said, "Your bum is dancing!" I'm glad she found my butt-jiggling hilarious. And during prayers she was praying for family and said, "Jesus is coming to help Bradlee, Brock, Brecken and Brit, and Tyler.... And...... (Long pause) Mom Tyler..."  She forgot Tory's name. She will forever be known as Mom Tyler now.

I saw this on something, somewhere, and laughed. It's so dang true.

The 8th of February marked 7 years since my close friend Adrianne was killed.
I still miss her lots but know she's happy and that I'll see her again. I need to get a more recent picture at her headstone. Kennedy was only 8 months old in the above pic.

Just some proof grocery shopping sucks.

Kennedy has been super interested in my makeup lately, so while Brynlie was sleeping Monday, I gave Kennedy a makeover.
She wouldn't hold still but she still looks beautiful, even with eyebrows that look like a blind person did them. I told her girls with makeup on don't cry.

It didn't work.

Just hanging out, watching some TV

The house is coming along. Cory is still working on electrical and soon to be plumbing. None of that is photographable unless you found outlets and wires interesting. But the other day he got all our recessed lighting in for the kitchen and living room. It looks amazing and is super bright. It was exciting!!

While getting Brynlie off the top bunk this morning I looked up and saw that apparently kennedy drew a picture, and thought it was so good she needed to pull out existing nails from the walls and hammer them in to her picture with her toy hammer to hang it up. I thought it was pretty funny.

My legs are in DESPERATE need of a tan, and I hate shoe selfies, but I literally cannot put into words how much I love these shoes. They've changed my life. Hoka One One. Best shoes I've ever worn for anything.
I've also been bruising super easy lately. Anyone know what might be causing that? The massive bruise on my shin was from hitting the corner of the car door. It hurt, but was just a little jab, but then the bruise spread into that giant softball-sized mess you see. That's the second time a bruise as gotten that big on my legs. Am I dying??

I had to make my second Costco run of the week this afternoon. I was cranky, sick of the kids not listening, and I was at Costco which 99.9% of the time is a guarantee I'll be mad about something (I hate going to that store) so in order to keep my blood pressure down, I let the girls cruise around like this
We came out injury-free which was a huge win.

Well, I think that's enough for now. Life is crazy, and fun, and I will keep trying to do better at this blogging thingy.
