Thankful

We had a great thanksgiving this year.

We started early by having Thanksgiving with my side of the family on the Sunday before. We invited some extended family to join us and we had a great time eating and visiting. Kennedy was so excited to play with cousins.

Thanksgiving morning I started the day running a 10k.

I didn't really train for this race. I was running a lot until It got colder (which is weird because I actually LOVE running in the cold) and then I took a few weeks off and focused on strength training. But, considering I wasn't "ready" and it was my first race post-baby, I rocked it! I felt very strong and took on the hills like a champ. And I finished only 3 minutes over my 10k PR which is pretty impressive; especially when you take into account that I was 30lbs lighter and training harder when I hit that PR. I'm feeling so grateful to have my body back and I can't wait to see how much stronger I am able to get as times go on. And as I continue to lose more weight...

Later that day we had dinner with corys side of the family. We had cousins join us this time, too, which was great! Kennedy and Asher buddied up immediately and were inseparable the whole night
Too much cuteness in that photo!

I love this time of year so much. There's so much happiness and excitement in the air and the family time can't be beat. We even did a little Black Friday shopping today and made a haul, so Christmas shopping is almost done! Eeeek!!!

I'm feeling so grateful for the life I've been given. We have our trials like everyone else, but I have been so blessed with my amazing family, our health, a roof over our heads, food to eat, and the Savior leading and guiding us. What more could I want?

I hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving!

I'm Sorry, Thanksgiving

I am usually so against celebrating or accepting that Christmas is coming until after Thanksgiving. We just can't overlook mashed potato day.

But this year I've broken my own rules. I am frighteningly excited for Christmas! I cannot stand it! We've already been listening to Christmas music (or is it "holiday" music?), we have an embarrassingly crappy countdown to Christmas chart made, I've already done half our Christmas shopping, and I'm hoping to convince Cory to put our tree up this weekend. Why all the excitement? It's simple; I am excited because Kennedy is excited. And playing Santa is so much fun!!

But let me back up. I'm getting ahead of myself...

Cory and I had a date planned to the Cheesecake Factory tonight for my birthday. But then we heard that Santa was arriving at City Creek Mall (where we were going to be eating) and we knew Kennedy would go completely nuts to see that. So we arranged our plans to include Kennedy. Grandma and Brynlie got to play.

Date night = an excuse to actually wash my hair, wear it down, and put on makeup.
But can we please talk about the fact that my skinny jeans are no longer tight?!
Progress, guys!! I'm getting there...

Anywho, we enjoyed a fabulous dinner and my dates were pretty darn attractive
And here's one where Kennedy doesn't look like she's about to stab someone in the hand
Then we headed outside to the official Santa viewing area with an hour to spare. We immediately ran into our neighbors from across the street and they filled us in on what the Santa arrival was like since they were veterans. They were so great with Kennedy, too. They're fantastic neighbors.

It was absolutely packed after 15 minutes
But there was so much excitement in the air
And we kept busy playing with the glow sticks that were handed out and fighting with people who tried to push their way into our good spot. I learned something new about myself tonight; if you mess with my sweethearts ability to see Santa, I will cut you.

After a solid hour of waiting, Santa finally made his appearance
And Kennedy loved it. I have video of her reaction when Santa showed up on top of the building but I'm too lazy to upload it. She was excited!!
He walked right by us and she got to see him close up. She didn't say much but told my mom with pure jubilation about it when we picked up Brynlie later. It was worth every second standing in heeled boots, every fight we got in to, and every shove I experienced.

Let's bring on the Christmas excitement!! I love this time of year!! (Not so much the crowds....)

Completely Random

Until I acquire the skill of remembering to take more photos of life, you get super randomness for this post.

I have completely mastered cooking a steak. And it never touches a grill. Come on over and I'll share my amazing culinary skills with you. Just b.y.o. steak; beef prices are ridiculous. And this steak wasn't quite as red as the camera made it look. But it was heavenly.

I told Cory the other day I wondered what I would look like with dark red hair since it's pretty popular right now (I'm just kidding, I never know what's popular). The question led to an app which led to the above phenomenon. Cory hated it, my mom hated it, but part of me loves it. I'll never do it because I would feel obligated to go through my days wishing for legs and singing "Part of Your World," but it was fun to try virtually.

Holy crap, yes. I hate selfies for no reason.

I cannot stop laughing at this:
Or this:

I smashed my finger over 3 weeks ago at the gym while racking a 45 lb weight. Basically the weight tried to eat the bone in my finger. This is my bruise that is STILL there, and it's still super sensitive to the touch. I will be more careful from now on. Lesson learned.

Yeah.... I don't know either.

This is now a background on my phone.

Brynlie is getting stronger every day at sitting up. We're hoping by Christmas she will have it.

Yesterday we went to run an errand really quick and Kennedy fell asleep in the car. I carried her inside and asked if she wanted to sleep on the couch. She said no and stumbled up the stairs. I started dinner and realized it was very quiet. I found her like this, dead asleep:

Well That Sucked

Whoa what a week.

First up, we had a great Halloween.
My parents and Lisa came down to trick or treat with us and have some pizza and pumpkin bread. Kennedy was a pro trick or treater and made a haul with all the trick or treating she did. And now we have a giant bucket of candy sitting in our house tempting me every single day.

Brynlie hated her costume but was a good sport about being carted around the neighborhood.

I've been in blog-hiatus for a week because I've had extreme technical difficulties this week. My phone that was only a year old just up and died. I was entering something in myfitnesspal and it froze and then just shut off and I couldn't get it back on. No matter what I tried. My warranty had just barely expired and they wouldn't override it to get me a new phone. We pay for insurance but I guess there is a deductible and I wasn't terribly crazy about my phone to begin with so I really didn't want to fork out money to get a new one that I don't love.

Long story short, (or is it?) I am now the proud owner of a new iPhone. I'm super excited to be an Apple disciple again. And now I can blog from my phone, too! But in the mean time while I waited for the new iPhone to come, I was given a phone that was about 7 years old too use. I'm not kidding. It had the slide up key board, no way to send pics, no internet, no apps, just calling and texting. So I wasn't able to take many pictures of our super exciting lives during the week.

But, we did go to Scheels on a whim and ended up having a super fun time. Kennedy is now tall enough to ride the Ferris wheel so we each took a turn riding with her.
I wanted pictures of her and Cory but I forgot to get his phone from him before they got on and my phone wasn't able to do anything. So you get pics of us.
I was so excited to ride it with her until we got on and went up... Then I remembered how much I truly hate Ferris wheels. Explain to me how I can rock climb without fear but Ferris wheels scare the crap out of me?

This weekend has been a rough one. Brynlie is sick with a nasty cold and has been a little more than difficult. I'm hoping she gets over it fast and that no one else in the family gets it. She's still cute though.
